… how about that for a dose of handsome I think people were questioning my switch from full sessions down to mini sessions for families (which of course are stackable if needed) – but it just goes to show you, sometimes it only takes a few minutes to find the magic (and a fun family). It was a pleasure to meet you three!

I’ve been shooting a same location the last few times I’ve been out. It’s just a public park, nothing fancy. But when the sun sets through the trees it just makes this beautiful filtered colorful light that I cant get enough of. No matter how many times I go back, each session still looks unique to me. Unsure that I will tire of it, any time soon, I suppose I will keep going back for now

I’ve photographed this family since Carter was born, and the second baby is just as gorgeous as the first.  Such a difference though for Zoe’s cake smash – she was a little lady and just crouched down to take bites, at her big brother’s on the other hand? He sat in his   It got pretty chilly around 7 (of course!) but the breeze died down and we had a lot of varing sunlight colors coming in – each photo is so unique in that the light changes so quickly a that hour. Instead of trying to “make them all look the same”, I’ve embraced just letting them be and I’m much happier letting go of that “control”.  This session was a combo of a first birthday celebration and family session so I have quite a few images to filter through, but I was diggin all the color so much and with it being kind of drab out today, I thought it appropriate to post

Lot’s going on – the new space is getting framed in as I type this, the Mother’s Day event (see two posts prior for info or find it on DLP’s facebook) seems to be growing, and I have a package in the grand auction tonight at the CEDF Auction.  I probably shouldnt admit I’m horrified over this… but I am.  I hope it brings in some change for the schools – but I do not like bright lights and stuff so I’m staying away from the auction tonight in the event it begins and no one bids, I dont have to be publicly humiliated. Blargh.  Does this exhibit a lack of confidence? Sorry – I am human after all!

The Holland’s were my second family in town for Easter from the Columbus area and they rounded out my saturday evening. I had the chance to photograph them a few years ago and hadn’t seen them since – the first image, she was just SO LITTLE to me last time I saw her, and now she looks so grown up.

Her older sister wasn’t too interested back then, nor was she saturday to have her photo taken but we reached a breakthrough after a chit chat (and a bit of a bargain I held mom to) and then THAT happened. T. has NO IDEA how gorgeous she is – she smiled and her whole face just lit right up. I hope she loves this portrait of herself. Sometimes it’s hard to see in the mirror what everyone tells you sometimes… I am a firm believer that everyone needs a nice portrait of themselves as a reminder of just how lovely you really are. I wasnt certain I was going to get one of these amazing expressions from her and then it just happened. I felt joy for her.

Some might be curious if, for the limited timeframe the family mini’s run if “the magic” still happens – and judging by the laughter going on here, I think it goes without saying

The Gohrings were in all the way from NJ to visit family for Easter, and I couldnt have been happier that the weather was beautiful for the two sessions I had on saturday evening. I had to toss big brother a few smiles from my pocket after his patience began to wear thin, but they worked and we filled our mini session right up! I will post a few from my other session that day soon as well, too.

The first day of spring is upon us today… had a beautiful session (after rescheduling a few times due to rain) with beautiful temps yesteday, and the gorgeous yellow flowers on my neighbors bush are in full force of “lovely” – so sharing a bit of both seemed appropriate for today. The Estep’s also had a fall mini and it’s crazy to look back at little Bria from just a few months ago – they grow and change so fast.  These kids are always SO EASY to photograph – they get along so well (at least around me!) and are all three more than willing to have their photo taken for 1:1 time with the camera. Stinkers!

I handed out many of the high-resolution .jpg file of my photo of Joshua Tree National Park (via facebook) and I will be setting up a gallery soon where any fine art prints desired can be purchased. I think the yellow flowers may have just found a cozy space in my house to fill

…yes. It has indeed been a while.  It had just become more important with the busy wedding season followed by the busiest portrait time of year to keep turning projects out versus blogging.  I have so much to blog and share.  Hoping to to that, as well as get this site’s branding updated.  It desperately needs attention!

you may recognize miss reagan from the first image on the blog header slideshow – i can hardly believe she is a whole year old. she’s a teeny little peanut and full of cute! i was glad the weather cooperated for us to get these, being mom was only in town from columbus for the weekend!

sorry for the crazy lack of blogging since summer, just too much going on here with work! i suppose ive got all winter to head up some major wedding blogging,eh?

I haven’t spent many saturdays (or weekends at all) for that matter with my kids since before school let out last spring.  Yesterday (saturday) I spent the morning with the Brown’s (see abby and greg’s wedding below) at the Alexa Brown Memorial 5K in Clyde.  I love when I get to spend time with them and their family and friends – they make me feel good about who I am and lift me up.  They are a great example of why we are on this earth.  I came home and spent the afternoon with my kiddos – Domino Rally was on tap for a few hours (and now that they are all over the house, I suppose today, too). 

Talking with a photographer friend of mine the other day about some frustrations and she directed me to a project she and others have been working on and I kind of had a “duh” moment – when was the last time I just took photographs of my kids being kids? Just playing, and “doing” and “being”?  So I did. I used to, and got caught up in all the other stuff I’m doing and I havent in forever.  I will treasure these and vow to do it more often.  These are how I remember my saturday afternoons as a kid.

I was trying to build a lengthly domino trail for Evan and I kept knocking it down (they don’t put lens IS in dominos, so my lack of steadiness did not get the job done!) and the conversation was as follows:

Me: Evan, I’m sorry. I just cannot get it to balance.

Evan: Mom, here. Read the directions.

Well, that’s the answer when you’re four.

Cant get life to balance? Read the directions. 

Not the paper directions, but listen to a friend, your instincts, get back to basics.  Keep the dominoes up in every aspect – work, home, family, personal time.  When one falls down, it kinda’ makes everything else lose it’s stability.
